Job summary

Marotta Controls, Inc. in Chaska, MN is seeking a Sr. Staff Motor Design Engineer to design, prototype, and verify high-performance aerospace and defense electric motors.

You will work with magnetics, laminations, windings and sensors, applying GD&T and manufacturability considerations from concept through validation. You will lead cross-functional teams, interact with suppliers and customers, and optimize cost, weight, and reliability while meeting stringent AS9100 standards.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 7-12 years’ experience in electro-magnetic motors, windings, products, and systems engineering.
• Excellent verbal/written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Highly computer literate with MS Office and related systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Must be a US Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, assemble and test electromagnetic topologies for aerospace motors.
• Develop breakthrough motor technologies to win in key markets.
• Select materials and apply GD&T for manufacturability and cost.
• Use electromagnetic analysis (FEM, simulation, modeling).
• Lead design/manufacturing tradeoffs for cost, efficiency, mass, and thermal.
• Collaborate with actuation and test engineering on new programs.
• Review supplier processes and risk mitigation in manufacturing.
• Inspect and verify in-process and final product conformance.
• Review prints and specs to identify manufacturing challenges.
