Job summary

Olympus Controls is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join our fast-paced automation team. You will conceptualize, design, develop and test mechatronic automation solutions, create detailed 2D/3D drawings, and support manufacturing and supply chain activities to deliver on time and on budget.

Ideal candidates have a degree in mechanical engineering, 5–7 years of design experience, and hands-on experience with DFSS, DFM, and CAD/PDM tools in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent required.
• 5-7 years of relevant design experience required.
• Experience in machine design using DFM principles.
• Understanding of Six Sigma process control, LEAN, TQM, and/or DFSS.
• Computer literacy and Microsoft Office experience is a must.
• Experience in PDM (i.e., SolidWorks PDM), ERP (i.e., Syspro, SAP), CAD software systems (i.e., SolidWorks) is a plus.
• Experience with mechatronics (i.e., sensors, vision, motion control, plc, robotics) is a plus.
• Experience or understanding of automation controls (i.e., electrical schematics, automation control panels) is a plus.
• Understanding principles of software code (robot, vision programing) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work with sales engineers and customers to define the problem and SOW.
• Conceptualize innovative mechatronic and product design solutions.
• Help prepare Statements of Work (SOW) / proposals for new opportunities.
• Apply VOC principles in creating a solution with 3D concepts for sales and costing.
• Design detailed 3D models of parts and complete automation subassemblies.
• Learn DFSS principles to achieve capability and reproducibility in outputs.
• Apply root cause analysis in troubleshooting automated systems.
• Apply FMEA & DFMEA during the design process.
• Continue applying DFM principles for manufacturability and quality.
• Create and check detailed 2D drawings of parts/assemblies.
• Support BOMs and ECOs.
• Help design and execute Proof of Concepts (POC) to determine feasibility.
• Work with a wide variety of technology and applications.
• Collaborate in a small cross-functional team to enhance outputs.
• Report progress to project managers or leads regularly.
• Honor commitments and uphold Olympus Controls' core values.
• Participate in internal and customer-facing design reviews.
• Support FAT/SAT system buyoffs.
• Occasional travel as needed.
