Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Sterling, VA to drive the design, development and qualification of complex mechanical systems across the full lifecycle. The role emphasizes hands-on work, lab engagement, and independent action within cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate will own major system components, perform trade studies, and supervise a design team while adhering to company processes and security requirements. A TS/SCI clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering.
• Active TS/SCI clearance (or held within last 2 years).
• Favorable polygraph required.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of design, development and qualification of mechanical systems.
• Provide leadership and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Create Technical Data Package components ( drawings, BOMs, etc.).
• Prototype, integrate and test components and assemblies.
• Develop test plans and procedures for subsystems.
• Participate in design reviews (PDRs/CDRs) and product change discussions.
• Direct Designers/Technicians/Operators in a design team.
• Support field testing/demonstration efforts as ME field representative.
