Job summary

Veeco is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical architecture of next‑generation ion beam and deposition systems. You will guide design decisions from vacuum vessels to automation interfaces and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years' design of capital equipment and vacuum systems.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and 2D drafting as primary design platforms.
• Proven structural and thermal FEA experience guiding production hardware decisions.
• Hands-on prototyping, assembly, and debugging in lab or factory settings.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical architecture of ion beam deposition and etch systems end to end.
• Lead structural/thermal analysis and DOE testing to reduce iterations.
• Drive prototype development, ECOs, and production readiness.
• Lead design reviews with stakeholders and customers, ensuring traceability.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain and manufacturing on procurement and builds.
• Mentor junior engineers and expand subsystem ownership.
• Define mechanical specs from customer requirements; ensure SEMI S2/S8 compliance.
