Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical architecture of next-generation ion beam deposition and etch systems. You will drive design trade-offs, perform FEAs, and guide prototype development through DOE and production readiness.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead cross-functional design reviews, and ensure SEMI safety standards compliance across programs. This is a high-visibility role with impact on Veeco's fastest-growing product lines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering with experience designing capital equipment or vacuum systems.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting tools as primary design platforms.
• Experience performing structural and thermal FEA to inform design decisions.
• Hands-on experience building, assembling, and troubleshooting prototype mechanical hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical architecture of ion beam deposition and etch systems end to end.
• Lead engineering analysis and simulation (structural/thermal) to validate concepts.
• Drive prototype development from design through test and DOE execution.
• Run design reviews with stakeholders and external customers.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain and manufacturing for procurement and builds.
• Mentor junior engineers and expand team ownership.
• Define mechanical design specs and ensure SEMI safety standards compliance.
