Veeco Instruments Inc. in San Jose is seeking a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to advance mechanical designs for wafer processing equipment and subassemblies.

You will contribute to Vacuum vessel and ion beam system design, support OEM components, and drive robust engineering practices. The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering with extensive hands-on experience, proficiency in SolidWorks/Inventor/Creo, and strong FEA knowledge.

Qualifications

• BS degree in mechanical engineering with substantial experience in capital equipment design.
• Experience with vacuum systems, substrates, or complex assemblies is required.
• Hands-on troubleshooting and prototyping are expected.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for wafer processing equipment and subassemblies.
• Ensure design quality, reliability, and manufacturability within cost targets.
• Perform analytical studies on vacuum vessels, heat transfer and dynamics.
