Energy Jobline ZR in Austin, TX, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a hands-on defense program focused on electromechanical actuation systems. The role covers design, testing, and production support in a small team onsite.

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing electromechanical actuation hardware now in production.
• Strong servo systems, motion control, motors, and drivetrain knowledge.
• Experience taking designs through qualification to production.
• Hands-on instrumentation, DAQ, hardware testing, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to size components and validate performance by calculations.
• Experience with CAD and PLM systems.
• Background in missile systems, UAS, robotics, or automotive actuation.
• Must meet U.S. person ITAR requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own electromechanical actuation systems from prototype to production.
• Design and optimize mechanical components for tolerances and environments.
• Manage mechanical/electrical integration including packaging, connectors, harnesses, sensors.
• Design and build test equipment to evaluate performance and thermal behavior.
• Lead vibration, shock, thermal, and lifecycle testing with analysis.

$110k - $150k depending on experience

A Senior Mechanical Engineer is required for a hands-on engineering position focused on the design, development, testing, and production of advanced electromechanical actuation systems within the defense sector.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work across the complete engineering lifecycle, combining mechanical design, hands-on testing, technical problem-solving, and manufacturing support. The position offers significant engineering responsibility within a small team, with direct involvement in both current and future programs.

Senior Mechanical Engineer Role:

• Take ownership of electromechanical actuation systems, developing existing designs from prototype through qualification and production.
• Design and optimize mechanical components, considering tolerances, precision, stiffness, and demanding operating environments.
• Manage mechanical and electrical integration, including packaging, connectors, harnessing, and sensors.
• Design and build test equipment to evaluate system performance, reliability, and thermal characteristics.
• Lead vibration, shock, thermal, and lifecycle testing, including test planning, data analysis, and technical reporting.
• Identify design improvements through hands-on troubleshooting, performance testing, and engineering analysis.
• Work alongside manufacturing, machine shop, and supply chain teams to improve manufacturability and support production at scale.
• Lead new electromechanical actuation and motion control designs for future engineering programs.

Senior Mechanical Engineer Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience designing electromechanical actuation hardware that has progressed into production.
• Strong understanding of servo systems, motion control, motors, and mechanical drivetrain design.
• Experience taking mechanical or electromechanical designs through qualification and into production.
• Hands-on experience with instrumentation, data acquisition (DAQ), hardware testing, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations, size mechanical and electromechanical components, and validate design performance.
• Experience using CAD and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
• Background in missile systems, munitions, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), robotics, or automotive actuation.
• Must meet U.S. person requirements under ITAR.
