Job summary

SmithGroup is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Ann Arbor office. You will design and document HVAC systems, assess performance, review submittals, and coordinate with designers and junior staff on healthcare, research lab and education projects.

Responsibilities include site visits, concept development, presentation drawings and mentoring. A bachelor’s degree and 7+ years’ experience are expected, with PE license required and LEED AP preferred.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years of related design and consulting experience in HVAC, plumbing and critical systems.
• LEED AP preferred; PE license required.
• Proficiency with Revit, TRACE 700 and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Perform analysis, design and documentation of HVAC systems and controls.
• Perform system assessments and prepare technical reports.
• Review submittals, RFIs and change orders; conduct site observations.
• Coordinate work of mechanical designers and junior staff on projects.
• Assist with construction site visits and punch lists.
• Create planning and design concepts for projects.
• Prepare presentation drawings and assist with presentations.
• Mentor and train junior staff.
