Job summary

Northrop Grumman Corp. is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer stationed on-site in McClellan, CA. You will support the design of military electrical systems for defense platforms, lead mechanical design activities, and collaborate across engineering and manufacturing to ensure high‑reliability sensor systems.

You will mentor junior engineers, perform design reviews, and apply GD&T and BOM management within a fast‑paced environment requiring security clearance and US citizenship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in STEM with 5+ years of experience or Master's with 2+ years.
• 3+ years' experience with CAD modeling in PTC Creo or Siemens NX.
• Experience releasing Drawings and BOMs in a PLM system (Windchill/Teamcenter).
• GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack‑up analysis.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development for 3U VPX Chassis and Systems and existing product lines.
• Perform precision mechanical design work: GD&T, drawings, BOMs, manufacturing work instructions.
• Develop mechanical test/qual plans (vibration, thermal, shock, life testing).
• Collaborate with senior engineers and program management to drive hardware design.
• Derive system requirements into mechanical designs and assist root-cause analysis.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead design reviews with cross‑functional teams.
