Job summary

10x Genomics seeks a Mechanical Engineer 3, Consumables Sustaining to join the Manufacturing Systems Engineering team in Pleasanton, CA. You will sustain and provide technical stewardship for on-market consumables, collaborating across operations, QA, and R&D to resolve complex issues.

The role emphasizes design transfer, ECOs/ECRs, and CAPA support, with a focus on thermoplastic components and precision injection-molded microfluidic assemblies.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6+ (BS) or 4+ (MS) years of experience in mechanical design or sustaining engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in biotech consumables.
• Plastics expertise with thermoplastic resins (COC, COP, PC, PP), elastomers (TPE/TPU), and precision injection molding.
• Strong understanding of 3D mechanical design, geometric tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, dimensional stack-ups and inspection procedures.
• Proficiency with CAD, PDM, simulation suites, metrology and imaging equipment (OGP, Keyence, Nikon) and data analysis tools (JMP).
• FMEA, cp k/ppk, and Gage R&R familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Functional Collaboration with operations, QA, and R&D.
• Support design, development and transfer of consumable components.
• Serve as mechanical contact for on-market sustaining issues.
• Communicate findings to stakeholders across operations, commercial and R&D.
• Lead/root cause investigations using FEA, tolerance analysis and failure analysis.
• Support CAPAs, non-conformance investigations and QC method development.
• Manage product lifecycle using Arena PLM and Oracle ERP.
• Identify yield, reliability and quality improvements for on-market consumables.
