Job summary

10x Genomics, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineer 3, Consumables Sustaining to join the MSE team in Pleasanton, CA. This role focuses on sustainment and technical stewardship of on-market consumables, collaborating with operations, R&D, and QA to drive issue resolution.

You will analyze field and manufacturing problems, lead root cause investigations, and support ECOs/ECRs, CAPAs, and QC method development with a strong plastics and precision molding background.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years in mechanical design or sustaining engineering, including at least 3 years in biotech consumables.
• Plastics expertise with thermoplastics resins (COC, COP, PC, PP), elastomers (TPE/TPU), and precision injection molding.
• Strong understanding of 3D mechanical design, geometric tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, dimensional stack‑ups and inspection procedures.
• Experience with CAD, PDM, simulation suites, metrology and imaging equipment (OGP, Keyence, Nikon) and data analysis tools (JMP).
• Familiarity with Risk Management, Process capability (cpk, ppk), FMEA, and Gage R&R.

Responsibilities

• Cross-functional collaboration to design, develop and transfer new consumable components.
• Serve as mechanical contact for on-market consumables sustaining issues; communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions; support manufacturing and quality processes.
• Drive on-market engineering changes (ECOs/ECRs) through change control; support CAPAs and QC method development.
