Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the Cable Magnets hardware from concept through delivery. You will perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis, develop specifications, and document requirements for manufacture and installation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant field.
• 7+ years of engineering design and analysis experience.
• 2+ years providing engineering support to production hardware and implementing design for manufacturing or assembly changes.
• Experience with parts designed for high loads and extreme environments.
• Knowledge of static structures and heat transfer; strong design process skills.
• Proficient in CAD; NX preferred.
• FEA experience with ANSYS or COMSOL; GD&T knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own hardware from concepts to delivery for Cable Magnet systems.
• Develop design notes, technical specifications, and validation documents.
• Support procurement and manufacturing contracts; collaborate with production teams.
• Build and install designs, and provide on-site engineering support as needed.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation to validate designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
