Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems in the United States seeks a Mechanical Engineer for Cable Magnets to own hardware from concept to delivery, performing thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analyses to ensure requirements are met.

You will develop design notes and specifications, support procurement, and assist production teams during build and installation. CAD (NX) and FEA (ANSYS/COMSOL) skills are essential, with at least five years of engineering design experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering design and analysis experience.
  • Hands-on experience with high-load or extreme environments.
  • Experience supporting production hardware and design for manufacturing/assembly changes.
  • Strong knowledge of static structures and heat transfer.
  • Proficiency in CAD (NX preferred) and FEA (ANSYS/COMSOL).

Responsibilities

  • Own cable magnet hardware for SPARC, ARC, and other projects from concept to delivery.
  • Develop and iterate designs using physics, structural mechanics, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with R&D, analysis, manufacturing, and procurement to hit milestones.
  • Diagnose production/assembly issues and propose design solutions.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and validation documentation for Cable Magnet systems.
