Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Mechanical Engineer – Cable Magnets to own hardware from concept to delivery, performing thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analyses to ensure the Cable Magnet hardware and supporting systems meet requirements. You will develop design notes, specifications, and manufacturing documentation, and support procurement and production teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 5+ years of design/analysis experience.
• Hands-on experience with high-load hardware in manufacturing or assembly.
• Proficiency in CAD/NX and FEA tools (ANSYS/COMSOL).
• Experience with metals, composites, and cryogenic environments is preferred.
• Understanding of GD&T and design for manufacturability is required.

Responsibilities

• Own cable magnet hardware from early concept through delivery.
• Perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analyses to meet requirements.
• Develop design notes, specs, and manufacturing/installation documentation.
• Support procurement and provide technical input for contracts.
• Collaborate with R&D, analysis, manufacturing, and procurement to hit milestones.
• Produce design documentation and validation reports for Cable Magnet systems.
• Travel occasionally and participate in build/assembly support.
