Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Cable Magnets in Massachusetts. You will own hardware from concept to delivery, performing thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analyses to meet requirements.

You will create design notes, specifications, and documentation to manufacture and install the Cable Magnet hardware and support systems. You will also assist procurement during manufacturing contracts and support production teams through build and installation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 5+ years of engineering design and analysis experience.
• 2+ years providing engineering support to production hardware.
• Experience with parts designed for high loads and extreme environments.
• CAD (NX preferred) and FEA (ANSYS/COMSOL) knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own cable magnet hardware from concept to delivery, ensuring designs are completed, validated, procured, built, and installed on time.
• Develop new and iterate on design concepts using physics, structural mechanics, and analysis techniques.
• Liaise with R&D, analysis, manufacturing, and procurement to drive program milestones.
• Diagnose production/assembly issues and propose corrective design solutions based on root cause.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and design documentation for validation of final Cable Magnet systems.
