Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. seeks a Principal/Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design, testing and packaging for high altitude aerospace applications. The role focuses on designing electronics packaging that withstands stringent environmental requirements and managing subcontracted development work.

You will perform thermal, structural and dynamic analyses, develop drawings, and implement assembly/test procedures while guiding teams on challenging aerospace projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required or equivalent.
• 12–15 years in mechanical engineering with 7+ years in production rotating electrical machines or electronics packaging.
• Experience developing requirements specifications per MIL-STD 961D or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Leads or supports thermal, structural, dynamic and fluid analyses for electronics equipment.
• Leads testing and data collection in lab and field environments.
• Models mechanical devices and selects appropriate materials.
• Performs stress, fatigue and thermal analyses and selects bonding materials.
• Develops mechanical drawings and tolerances; creates assembly instructions and test procedures.
• Develops test plans and procedures to verify designs; supervises others as needed.
