Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, test, and support manufacturing of high-altitude aerospace equipment. You will lead mechanical packaging for electronics and develop robust test procedures for stringent environmental conditions.

The role requires extensive experience with SolidWorks, ANSYS, and thermal management, plus familiarity with MIL-STD-810/961D standards and aerospace manufacturing practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8–12 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with 5+ years in production rotation electrical machines or related aerospace packaging.
• Experience developing mechanical subsystem requirements per MIL-STD 961D or equivalent.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools: SolidWorks for modeling; ANSYS for structural/fatigue; ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support thermal, structural, dynamic and fluid flow analyses for electronics equipment.
• Lead testing and data collection in lab and field.
• Develop mechanical drawings and specify tolerances; create assembly instructions and test procedures.
• Develop test plans and procedures to verify designs.
• Coordinate activities of team members and external subs unless needed.
• Perform stress, fatigue, thermal analyses and material selection.
