Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools and machines for aerospace applications.

You will lead mechanical design and packaging for high altitude electronics, manage mid-size outsourced development, and ensure environmental robustness. The role requires 8–12 years in mechanical engineering, strong CAD/CAE skills (SolidWorks, ANSYS), and experience with MIL-STD 961D and MIL-STD-810/DO-160.

Qualifications

• ,Minimum 8–12 years of mechanical engineering experience; 5+ years in production rotating electrical machines or electronics packaging for aerospace.
• ,Experience developing mechanical subsystems requirements per MIL-STD 961D or equivalent.
• ,Proficient with CAD/CAE tools: SolidWorks for modeling; ANSYS for structure/fatigue; ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis.
• ,Experience with bonding techniques for extreme environments and material properties.
• ,Experience with BOM creation and product documentation.
• ,Experience with testing and measurement techniques and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Leads or supports thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid flow analysis for electronics equipment.
• Leads testing and data collection in lab and field.
• Models mechanical devices and selects materials.
• Performs stress, fatigue, and thermal analyses; selects bonding material.
• Develops mechanical drawings and tolerances; creates assembly instructions and test procedures.
• Develops test plans to verify designs and ensure reliability.
• Coordinates team assignments and manages resources and milestones.
• Handles other duties as assigned.
