Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field with 4+ years of experience, or Master's with 2+ years of experience.
• Ability to conceptualize mechanical and system designs, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to develop and follow detailed engineering specifications, system control documents, project schedules, and safety procedures.
• Exposure to a broad range of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering design concepts.
• Excellent written and oral communication, ability to work with physicists, scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop component concepts and 3D models, perform analysis, select materials, and document designs per SSRL standards.
• Inspect accelerator mechanical systems, implement maintenance plans, and coordinate with technicians and operations staff.
• Prepare design reports, reviews, cost estimates, schedules, and test reports; mentor junior engineers.
• Coordinate work with Facilities, Environment Safety & Health, Accelerator Operations and other SLAC departments.
• Participate in hardware design reviews and high-level DOE reviews as needed.
