Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's SSRL Mechanical Engineering group seeks a skilled mechanical engineer to broaden its capabilities in accelerator systems. The role focuses on design, analysis, and upkeep of magnets, vacuum chambers, and cooling water networks, interfacing with physicists, engineers, and technicians.

You will develop concepts and 3D models, perform analyses, prepare design reports and cost estimates, and coordinate work with Facilities, ESH, and Accelerator Operations to

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field with 2+ years experience
• Strong ability to conceptualize designs and analyze systems
• Experience with CAD/FEA tools is preferred

Responsibilities

• Plan and design accelerator mechanical systems with physicists and engineers.
• Develop concepts and 3D models, select materials, prepare documentation.
• Inspect and maintain accelerator mechanical systems and implement maintenance plans.
• Prepare design reports, reviews, schedules, and test reports.
• Coordinate accelerator-related work with Facilities, Environment Safety & Health, Accelerator Operations, and others.
