Job summary

Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) at SLAC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze accelerator components, including magnets and cooling systems. You will develop 3D concepts, perform analyses, and prepare documentation in line with SSRL standards.

The role requires collaboration with Facilities, Environment Safety & Health, and Accelerator Operations. The ideal candidate has a mechanical engineering background with 4+ years of relevant experience (or 2+ years with

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, applied or engineering physics, or a scientific field related to synchrotron or XFEL radiation studies with 4+ years of experience (or Master's with 2+ years).
  • Ability to conceptualize mechanical and system designs and communicate complex concepts clearly.
  • Experience with detailed engineering specifications, system control documents, and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D component concepts, models, analyses, and documentation per SSRL standards.
  • Inspect accelerator mechanical systems, plan maintenance, and interface with technicians for proper upkeep.
  • Prepare design reports, reviews, cost estimates, and project schedules; mentor junior engineers.
