Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory invites applications for a Mechanical Engineer in SSRL's Mechanical Engineering group. The role focuses on designing accelerator mechanical subsystems, creating 3D models, conducting analyses, and documenting designs to SSRL standards.

You will work with physicists, scientists, and other engineers to develop requirements, perform design reviews, and ensure proper installation and maintenance of mechanical systems on site at SLAC in California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field with relevant experience.
• Ability to conceptualize mechanical and system designs with detailed specs and schedules.
• Experience with a broad range of materials, manufacturing processes, and design concepts.
• Strong written and oral communication when interfacing with scientists and technicians.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design accelerator mechanical systems interfacing with physicists and engineers.
• Develop 3D models, perform analyses, and prepare documentation per SSRL standards.
• Inspect, maintain, and upgrade mechanical subsystems; coordinate with facilities and safety teams.
• Prepare design reports, cost estimates, schedules, and test reports.
• Collaborate with SLAC departments to align accelerator-related work.
