Job summary

Seagate Technology's Normandale campus in Bloomington is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of HGA, flexures, suspensions, and micro-actuated subsystems from concept through validation.

You will build dynamic FEA models, drive experimental validation with LDV and NI DAQ, and translate results into robust, manufacturable solutions for high-volume production. Collaboration across controls, materials, and manufacturing is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 12+ years experience, or Master’s 8+ years, or PhD 5+ years.
Strong fundamentals in dynamics, structures, and actuation.
Experience with ANSYS APDL/Workbench and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

Own the design and development of HGA and mechanical subsystems from concept through validation.
Develop solutions for bandwidth, resonance, stiffness, damping, and robustness in precision motion systems.
Build dynamic and structural FE models to predict vibration and actuation response.
Lead model-to-test correlation using LDV, oscilloscopes, and NI data acquisition systems.
Mature concepts from exploratory research through production-readiness assessment.
