Job summary

Seagate Technology in Longmont, CO is seeking a Mechanical Design Senior Staff Engineer for an onsite role. You will own the design of Head Stack Assemblies, suspensions, actuators, and subsystems from concept through validation, tackling bandwidth, resonance, stiffness, and damping in precision motion systems.

You will lead cross-functional modeling, testing, and design optimization to enable high-volume production, driving reliability and cost objectives while mentoring engineers and shaping

Qualifications

• Advanced experience in mechanical dynamics, structural mechanics, vibration analysis, and precision actuation systems.
• Ability to apply physical understanding to build and refine models and assess validation.
• Experience bridging research, design, validation and manufacturing requirements.
• Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience or higher degrees with corresponding experience.

Responsibilities

• Build dynamic and structural FEA models to predict vibration, modal behavior, actuation response, and system interactions.
• Develop, automate, and maintain reusable simulation methodologies using ANSYS APDL/Workbench, HyperWorks, MATLAB.
• Define boundary conditions and material behavior to ensure predictive results.
• Close models through experimental correlation and refine assumptions as needed.
• Interpret results and explain how to improve performance beyond solver outputs.
• Design and execute experiments to validate dynamic behavior (vibration, resonance, damping).
• Lead model-to-test correlation using LDV, oscilloscopes, NI DAQ systems, high-frequency instrumentation.
• Translate discrepancies into actionable engineering insight and design improvements.
• Develop test methodologies to accelerate technology maturity.
