Job summary

Morson Group is seeking a highly technical Mechanical Design Engineer to support the X‑300 SMR project, focusing on the design and fabrication of nuclear mechanical components. You will be a key technical authority from design through fabrication and final acceptance, ensuring all components are dedicated to meet nuclear codes and standards.

You will work remotely in the U.S. on a 1-year contract with a flexible 9am–5pm EST schedule and competitive hourly rates.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in nuclear or highly regulated industry focusing on ASME Section III components.
• Strong knowledge of ASME Section III and ASME B31.1.
• Familiarity with ASME material, welding, and NDE requirements.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Experience under nuclear QA programs (10 CFR 50 Appendix B / NQA).
• Strong written and verbal communication with suppliers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own design specifications, calculations, and drawings for mechanical components.
• Define materials, weld details, and inspection requirements per ASME III.
• Review CMTRs, CoCs, weld/NDE records, and data packages.
• Translate design requirements into fabrication documents and plans.
• Review vendor procedures and monitor fabrication through final inspection.
• Ensure compliance with ASME III and QA requirements incl. 10 CFR 50 Appendix B / NQA-1.
• Collaborate with design, analysis, quality, supply chain, and construction teams.
