Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer at the Catawba Nuclear Station to support engineering design, analysis, and plant modification activities. Responsibilities cover design for vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, HVAC, and rotating equipment, with involvement in change packages and regulatory documents.

The Engineer III/Senior levels advance with greater independence; engineers develop advanced skills, identify problems, and implement solutions

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• M.S. in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S.
• 1 year of nuclear power plant experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
• PE registration may be required/considered.
• ASME Code knowledge for pressure vessels/piping is valued.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical technical design and project coordination.
• Specify vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, rotating equipment and other process equipment.
• Learn to prepare thorough and accurate engineering change packages, specifications, calculations and drawings.
• Research engineering and design issues, evaluates alternatives, determines and presents recommendations to resolve issues.
• Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
• Develop or revise design specifications or technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes.
• Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
• Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes.
• Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.
• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
