Intuitive Surgical, Inc. is seeking a senior mechanical design engineer to lead design, development, and testing of Endoluminal instruments and catheter-based devices interfacing with robotic systems. You’ll guide complex design challenges, collaborate with suppliers, and advance concepts from prototyping to commercialization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 6+ years in mechanical/catheter design.
• Proficiency using CAD to create, fabricate, and document medical device designs.
• Experience with prototyping/fabrication methods (3D printing, extrusion, injection molding, machining, wire EDM, welding).
• Apply engineering first principles to solve problems quickly and reliably.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with FEA, statistics, and experiments.
• Demonstrated ability to iterate prototypes rapidly.
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary internal functions and external suppliers.
• Strong understanding of Design Control phases.
• Ability to work well in team or solo assignments; self-starter.
• Ability to manage multiple complex priorities.

Responsabilités

• Design, prototype, troubleshoot, and optimize components of catheter structures.
• Evaluate designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and user experience.
• Establish technical direction and drive cross-functional decisions.
• Translate clinical, usability, and business needs into design requirements.
• Develop rigorous understanding of design risks; justify decisions with data.
• Create detailed drawings and perform tolerance analysis per industry best practices.
• Lead failure investigations with efficient experimental plans.
• Prepare protocols and reports to communicate progress and decisions.
• Develop and improve test methods and fixtures for prototypes.
• Collaborate with supplier engineers and manufacturing process teams.
• Review changes for regulatory/manufacturing impact.
• Mentor technicians and junior engineers.
