Job summary

Intuitive is a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of next-gen Da Vinci SP instruments. You will collaborate across Manufacturing, Systems, Clinical Development and suppliers to deliver robust, compliant medical devices with a patient-first mindset.

Role requires extensive CAD experience, proven design ownership, and a track record in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum: BSME; MSME preferred.
• 12+ years or 8+ with MS in mechanical eng.
• Experience with small mechanisms, plastics, medical products is a plus.
• CAD design of mechanisms; SolidWorks preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive design efforts to optimize performance, manufacturability and reliability of Da Vinci SP instruments.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Systems, Clinical Development and Supplier Engineers.
• Maintain awareness of customer needs; develop new device concepts and improve existing designs.
• Identify and quantify design risks through FMEA.
• Create product, functional, and design specifications.
• Analyze and test product designs.
• Develop vendors to manufacture components.
• Develop initial fixtures and processes to assemble components.
• Participate in clinical labs with surgical models.
• Develop product assembly instructions with Manufacturing.
• Perform component verification and product validation testing.
• Support production by troubleshooting process and component problems.
• Provide engineering support to Manufacturing, Materials, Test Engineering, and Service for design transfer.
• Develop Design History Files per FDA requirements.
• Investigate root causes of latent and emerging defects.
• Develop and implement solutions per SOPs.
