Job summary

Beyond New Horizons is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to support AEDC operations at Arnold Air Force Base in Manchester, TN. The role emphasizes machine and mechanism design, leading design teams, and delivering complete design packages for complex systems.

The successful candidate will perform advanced analyses (FEA, GD&T), mentor engineers, and review designs while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. A current security clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.

Qualifications

S. degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in machine and mechanism design.
Ten years’ experience in finite element analysis (FEA) and applications of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance and maintain authorized user access to AEDC networks.
S. Citizenship is required due to federal government contract compliance requirements and the necessity to access secure federal databases and networks on Arnold Air Force Base.
Experience with design for manufacturability and wind tunnel test hardware is preferred.
Strong leadership to mentor engineers and lead design reviews.

Responsibilities

Independently perform complex analysis and design of components, systems, and facilities using statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, machine element design, and manufacturability.
Check complex analyses and designs originated by less experienced engineers.
Develop concepts for new hardware and provide thermal, structural, flow, or other analyses to support the proposed design.
Design one-of-a-kind mechanisms, wind tunnel models, and test fixtures including stress analysis.
Provide engineering support to craft workforce for maintenance and repair of existing systems.
Coordinate with the design team to produce complete design packages, including drawings, analysis reports, and equipment specifications.
Serve as a point of contact for Design Engineering support on complex multi-year projects.
Lead teams and communicate design package details to system engineers and project managers.
Wear PPE as required by policy.
