Job summary

Moonshot is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in Lewisville, TX to own the design of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, including enclosures and bus assemblies. You will collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver production-ready solutions while mentoring peers.

You will develop concepts, create 3D models and drawings in SolidWorks, and ensure complete manufacturing documentation is released.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of professional mechanical design experience in product development.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Experience releasing complete manufacturing documentation packages.
• Ability to independently solve complex mechanical design and manufacturing problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment.
• Translate customer specs and regulatory requirements into practical mechanical designs.
• Develop concepts, 3D models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks.
• Own designs from concept through prototype builds, testing, and production release.
• Maintain engineering BOMs, fabrication drawings, specs, and revision-controlled docs.
• Collaborate with electrical/controls engineers to integrate bus systems and components.
• Apply DfM/DFA to improve quality, reduce cost, and reuse standard components.
• Plan and run design verification and certification testing; feed results back into design.
• Support prototype/pilot builds and resolve design/quality issues with manufacturing.
• Coordinate with suppliers on sheet metal, machining, welding, forming, insulation, and finishing.
