Job summary

Metric DCX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design activities for low-voltage electrical power equipment. You will create 3D models, drawings, and manufacturing docs using SolidWorks and PDM, coordinating with Electrical Engineering to integrate requirements and ensure safety and standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• 7+ years of mechanical design experience within engineered-to-order, industrial, electrical infrastructure, or similar product environments.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM systems.
• Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machining, structural design, and tolerance control.
• Experience producing complete manufacturing documentation, including drawings, BOMs, engineering changes, and revision-controlled files.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor less-experienced engineers.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and complex mechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities for low-voltage electrical power equipment, including enclosures, structural components, barriers, cable management, ventilation, and service access.
• Develop detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks and associated PDM systems.
• Support the configuration and development of large-scale electrical equipment, considering installation, transportation, alignment, maintainability, and service requirements.
• Work closely with Electrical Engineering to integrate mechanical and electrical requirements while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards and safety requirements.
• Drive DFM/DFA initiatives to improve manufacturability, standardize designs, increase component reuse, and reduce unnecessary customization.
• Manage engineering changes, redlines, deviations, and revision-controlled documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
• Support prototype builds, factory testing, certification activities, and product validation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
• Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners on sheet metal, machining, welding, finishing, gasketing, and assembly processes.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing, investigate build and quality issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Improve mechanical design standards, engineering documentation, and release processes.
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews, risk assessments, and technical evaluations.
• Incorporate manufacturing and field feedback into future product improvements.
• Support material review and nonconformance activities where required.
