Job summary

Moonshot is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of low-voltage switchgear and switchboard assemblies, including enclosures, frames, barriers, and cable management. You will develop 3D models in SolidWorks, maintain manufacturing packages, and collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure safety, code compliance, and high maintainability for 1200A–6000A systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required; master's preferred.
• 7+ years in mechanical design within engineered-to-order or electrical infrastructure environments.
• 1–2 years hands-on design for low-voltage switchgear (1200A–6000A) preferred.
• Advanced SolidWorks and PDM proficiency.
• Strong sheet metal, machining, structural design, and tolerance control knowledge.
• Experience releasing complete manufacturing packages (drawings, BOMs, ECOs, revision control).
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead execution across projects.
• Ability to read complex blueprints and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of low-voltage switchgear assemblies, including enclosures and cable management.
• Develop 3D models and detailed drawings; maintain manufacturing docs and revisions.
• Support large-frame lineup configuration and installation interfaces.
• Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure layouts meet safety and code compliance.
• Lead DFM/ DFA, modularization, and reduction of custom components.
• Generate and manage ECOs, redlines, and deviation requests.
• Support prototype builds, UL documentation, and certification activities.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews.
• Partner with suppliers on sheet metal, machining, welding, painting, gasketing, and assembly.
• Provide shop-floor support and drive corrective actions for quality issues.
• Support continuous improvement of mechanical design standards and release processes.
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews and risk assessments.
• Support field feedback and product lifecycle improvements.
• Assist with MRB activities and nonconformance disposition.
