Job summary

The Merc Co+op in Lawrence, Kansas is seeking a Meat & Seafood Specialist to lead daily operations in the Meat & Seafood Department. This senior role combines hands-on production, exceptional customer service, and team leadership support.

You will work with department leadership to maintain high standards for quality, food safety, merchandising, and training of team members. Prior meat, seafood, grocery, deli, or food production experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in meat, seafood, grocery, deli, or food service environments.
• Strong customer service and teamwork.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices preferred.
• ServSafe or other food safety certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, package, label, stock, and merchandise meat and seafood products.
• Maintain department standards for quality, freshness, food safety, and sanitation.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
• Assist with employee training, onboarding, and skill development.
• Support inventory management, receiving, product rotation, and shrink control.
• Create and maintain attractive sales displays and merchandising standards.
• Help ensure department goals for sales, productivity, and customer satisfaction are achieved.
• Follow all workplace safety, food safety, and company policies and procedures.
