Job summary

The Merc Co+op in Lawrence, KS is seeking a knowledgeable Meat & Seafood Specialist to join our team. This full-time role combines hands-on production, exceptional customer service, and department leadership support within a trusted, community-focused market.

You will work with department leadership to maintain product quality, food safety, and merchandising standards while training and mentoring other team members. Prior meat/seafood or related experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in meat and seafood, grocery, deli, food service, or related environments preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to support and coach coworkers in a positive and professional manner.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices preferred.
• ServSafe or other food safety certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support daily operations of the Meat & Seafood Department.
• Perform hands-on production work and deliver exceptional customer service.
• Assist with training, mentoring, and day-to-day operations.
• Maintain high standards for product quality, food safety, and merchandising.
• Coach and support other team members as needed.
