Job summary

Maricopa County's Department of Transportation seeks a Materials Testing Technician Senior to perform QA testing of soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete in lab and field settings. You will coordinate daily lab activities and assist in training technicians to ensure high-quality operations.

The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and adherence to standards, offering opportunities to work with advanced materials testing and nondestructive evaluation technologies.

Qualifications

• Two years of progressively responsible experience in construction materials testing
• Associate's degree or two years of college coursework in Construction Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or another related field
• Certifications: ATTI Soil and Aggregate, ATTI Asphalt, and ACI Strength
• Arizona driver's license by hire, or ability to obtain
• ATTI Field, Nuclear Gauge and Radiation Safety, within 6 months
• ACI Field within 12 months
• Experience with laboratory and field testing; knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO standards
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing of construction materials used on assigned projects
• Conduct field sampling and testing to verify material adequacy
• Support on-site certification inspections by national certifying agencies
• Prepare, review, and submit testing reports and summaries for accuracy
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify laboratory testing equipment
• Assist in training and mentoring Laboratory Technicians
• Coordinate and assign daily work activities to support lab operations
• Perform other duties as assigned
