Job summary

Timmons Group in Richmond, VA is seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing Engineering Technician to join our Geotechnical and Construction Services Group. Under the direction of the CMT Manager, you will apply field and lab testing skills to observe and test soils, asphalt, and concrete on site and in the lab.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of related experience or training.
• ACI certification for concrete is a plus, but not required.
• VDOT certifications for soils, concrete and asphalt pavement are a plus, but not required.
• Must have training on field and office equipment used to test and report data.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Solid math and data calculation abilities.
• Ability to learn and interpret documents such as plans and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Perform field materials testing of soil, asphalt and concrete.
• Prepare detailed field reports with test results and observations.
• Review project plans and specifications prior to construction.
• Perform basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepare reports.
• Ensure field and laboratory testing equipment is in proper operating condition.
• Maintain certifications as determined by senior staff.
• Assist senior personnel with geotechnical investigations.
• Evaluate site conditions and provide recommendations.
• Communicate with clients, contractors and staff regarding construction issues.
