Job summary

Thompson Engineering seeks a Construction & Geotechnical Materials Laboratory Manager to lead laboratory operations for soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt testing. You will oversee staff, equipment, quality systems, and safety, ensuring accurate and timely results while maintaining Thompson's quality standards.

This role emphasizes leadership, compliance with industry standards, and risk management to support project success and client satisfaction in a dynamic testing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 3+ years of geotechnical lab testing.
• Alternatively 10+ years of relevant laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
• Certification in concrete, aggregates, soil/rock, or asphalt is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage daily operations of the laboratory to ensure testing services are performed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
• Ensure all laboratory activities comply with quality programs, QMS, project specs, and industry standards.
• Develop and maintain laboratory procedures aligned with quality and operational requirements.
• Oversee proficiency testing programs and ensure compliance with accreditation standards (A2LA, AASHTO, USACE, ISO 17025, etc.).
• Lead, supervise, and mentor laboratory personnel; manage recruitment, onboarding, and training.
