Job summary

Timmons Group in Richmond, VA is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Engineering Technician to join our Geotechnical and Construction Services group. Under the direction of the CMT Manager, you will observe and test materials for site, road and building construction and prepare detailed field reports.

The role requires basic field and lab testing of soil, asphalt and concrete, the ability to read plans and specifications, and to communicate findings with clients and team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1+ years related experience or training.
• ACI certification for concrete is a plus.
• VDOT certifications for soils, concrete and asphalt pavement are a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas to calculate quantities and test results.

Responsibilities

• Performs field materials testing of soil, asphalt and concrete.
• Prepares detailed field reports with all test results and observations.
• Reviews project plans and specifications prior to construction.
• Performs basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepares reports.
• Ensures field and laboratory testing equipment is in proper operating condition.
• Maintains all certifications as determined by senior staff.
• Assists senior staff with geotechnical investigations.
• Communicates with clients, contractors and staff regarding construction issues.
