Job summary

AbbVie Inc. in North Chicago, IL seeks an experienced Material Manager to advance from Operator with SME responsibilities. You will set up systems, lead cross-functional tasks, and support reliability initiatives while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in a high-demand environment.

You will supervise daily tasks, train staff, troubleshoot, and coordinate logistics. This role emphasizes leadership, technical depth, and the ability to fill in as Operations Coordinator when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Forklift certification.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• EPA/RCRA, and DOT 49 CFR certifications (including ability to sign compliance documents).
• Respirator certification.
• Ability to obtain certification to drive trucks up to 10,000 pounds and vans on public roads.
• Knowledgeable in handling, storage, and compliance for hazardous, chemical, and biologic materials.
• Strong analytical training, problem-solving, teamwork, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Previous experience in industrial, military, pharma, chemical or utility plant operations.
• Broad technical knowledge of processes, equipment and site-specific systems; readiness for emergencies.
• Proficiency in computerized systems; ability to read, write, interpret, and communicate effectively.
• Strong mathematical/mechanical aptitude, understanding of lean tools, and regulatory compliance knowledge.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Operates key process equipment and instruments according to procedures in diverse outdoor conditions.
• Backups coordinator support by monitoring project changes and workflows.
• Monitors parameters, addresses deviations to mitigate material loss.
• Submits work orders for repair and maintains production logs.
• Ensures compliance with AbbVie policies and provides SME-level training support.
• Documents events from system checks and escalates unresolved issues.
• Coordinates logistic requests and tracks inventory to meet objectives.
• Supports safety programs and drives continuous improvement in EHS areas.
