Job summary

Raytheon in Andover, MA is seeking a chemical/materials engineer to join the Materials and Process Engineering Department. This onsite role focuses on testing adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and other production materials to support development, design and failure analysis activities.

The position requires critical thinking, careful documentation of results, and collaboration with design and material engineers, SMEs, and suppliers to solve material-related challenges.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent experience with 5+ years of relevant work experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years.
• Experience in Thermal Analysis and Characterization techniques (TGA/DSC/DMA/TMA/CTE).
• Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (FTIR/GCMS/IC/rheology).

Responsibilities

• Evaluate materials based on conformance to specifications and performance requirements.
• Develop or validate materials, properties, and processes for existing and new products.
• Provide resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes.
• Conduct hands-on testing of materials using laboratory techniques.
• Follow protocols and develop/test unique test plans and setups.
• Review material documentation and specifications.
• Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage.
• Engage with suppliers.
