AAM is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our Rochester Hills Technical Center in Rochester Hills, MI.Job Description
Perform fracture analysis and materials characterization of driveline components.
Operate a range of lab equipment, including:
Cut-off saws and sample prep equipment
Macro and micro hardness testers
Optical and SEM microscopes
Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES)
X-ray diffractometer (residual stress analysis)
Document findings through clear, concise engineering reports.
Support the A2LA quality system, including audits, interlaboratory testing, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with product engineering to recommend materials and processes for specific applications.
Create and maintain material specifications, covering:
Ferrous and aluminum materials
Castings, heat treatments, powder metal
Coatings and surface treatments
Interface with customers to address materials-related product issues.
Support plant metallurgy through audits, special projects, and troubleshooting.
Provide metallurgical expertise to supplier quality teams, including during resourcing or quality events.
All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Education
Bachelors degree in Materials Science & Engineering or similiar.
5+ years of Fracture analysis and laboratory practices experience.
