Job description

ERM is seeking a highly motivated Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist to join our global consulting firm as part of our Cultural Resources Services team. This is a full-time, salary-based position that can be based from a local ERM office or fully remote. Applicants are preferred to be local to Austin, Dallas, Houston, or New Orleans and should be familiar with relevant regional regulatory processes (federal, state, and municipal). Demonstrated regional high-level consulting experience is required. The successful candidate must be flexible and responsive to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules and tasks fluctuate according to project and client needs. The hire will be attached to an ERM office in Texas or Louisiana; other locations may be considered for the ideal candidate. The role involves providing technical assistance to clients across the United States, focusing on project needs and business development within their region.

Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee a team performing literature review, field reconnaissance, surveys, and excavation for archaeological projects.
  2. Provide technical consulting to support ERM's growth in archaeology and cultural heritage.
  3. Collaborate with other ERM practice areas to share resources and best practices nationwide.
  4. Represent ERM in communications and meetings with state, federal, and local agencies.
  5. Maintain regular communication with clients via email and phone.
  6. Manage subcontractors and assist in proposal preparation.
  7. Manage multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring quality standards.
  8. Lead, manage, hire, mentor, and inspire technical staff.
  9. Leverage existing client relationships to expand ERM's market share in cultural resources, combining technical excellence with business development.
  10. Participate in cross-office teams with impact assessment professionals globally.
  11. Engage with State Historic Preservation Offices, federal agencies, and online cultural resource databases.
  12. Lead and supervise staff during fieldwork and in-office tasks.
  13. Conduct research and prepare technical reports.
  14. Potentially conduct fieldwork as needed.
Requirements:
  1. Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field, plus 4+ years of relevant experience.
  2. Ability to complete research projects independently.
  3. Registered Professional Archaeologist.
  4. Ability to obtain necessary permits.
  5. Experience with inventory, survey, testing, and data recovery.
  6. Author of agency-reviewed technical reports.
  7. Strong attention to detail in documentation.
  8. Experience interacting with regulatory agencies preferred.
  9. Proficiency in permitting regulations (e.g., FERC, USACE, THC).
  10. Excellent communication and computer skills.
  11. Business development experience and client relationship management skills.
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  13. Limited travel within the U.S.
  14. Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, and confidence to address client and business needs.
  15. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle due to travel requirements.
