Job description

If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, we have an exciting opportunity for Senior Materials Engineer in the Product Engineering (Materials and Fuel Rod Design) group within Nuclear Fuels and Component Engineering group. This role is on-site and located in Churchill, PA.

Your Day-to-Day:

  1. Responsibilities will include applying knowledge of materials science to support the development of materials for nuclear applications, translating engineering requirements into test plans, development and execution of test plans and preparation of engineering analyses, calculations, and reports.
  2. Bring engineering rigor to resolution of problems, requiring prior knowledge and/or literature review within given discipline.
  3. Verify work of other engineers on assignments that range from basic to complex.
  4. Provide technical guidance and direction to and collaborate with other entities such as national laboratories, universities, and industry groups.
  5. Support development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
  6. Support hands-on material testing programs in a test lab environment. Testing ranges from mechanical testing, autoclave corrosion testing and materials and chemical characterization.
  7. Interface with customers, national labs, and universities for collaborative development programs to develop advanced materials and work with external testing laboratories.
  8. Participate in multi-discipline groups or teams to accomplish desired business objectives.
  9. Conduct statistical analysis of test data results.
  10. This person will also be required to develop and deliver presentations to communicate status, problem resolution or promote related business products.

Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, with a strong preference toward Materials Science or Chemical Engineering; Advance Degree nice to have.
  2. Minimum 5 years applicable experience required; 6 plus preferred.
  3. Experience with zirconium-based alloys is ideal.
  4. Strong organizational, planning skills, and attention to detail.
  5. Highly motivated, self-starter.
  6. Good judgment and the ability to prioritize a number of diverse tasks.
  7. Orientation towards achieving Customer Success.
  8. Effective communication, teaming, and team building skills.
  9. Strong technical writing ability.

This is an in-person position based at the Westinghouse Churchill Site.
