ICF is currently seeking a Senior Archaeologist to provide cultural resource management expertise in a dynamic, fast-paced environment on some of the region’s most influential and complex environmental compliance projects. Our nationwide cultural resources practice includes experts in architectural history, history, archaeology, GIS, data management, environmental regulations, and planning.

The Senior Archaeologist will serve as a client-facing technical lead, providing project management and senior-level technical expertise in cultural resource management services. Responsibilities include preparing proposals, communicating with clients, and tracking project budgets and schedules. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory compliance for renewable energy projects and archaeology in the Mid-Atlantic Region, with skills in project management and client relationship cultivation.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing senior-level technical leadership in archaeology and regulatory compliance
  • Managing projects related to environmental compliance and cultural resource management, including client contact, task order management, budget control, invoicing, scheduling, personnel planning, and subcontractor coordination
  • Evaluating resources for the National Register of Historic Places, developing resource management recommendations, assessing project effects, and supporting clients with complex management challenges requiring advanced technical or regulatory knowledge
  • Collaborating with integrated teams of cultural resources specialists and natural resources scientists, planners, regulators, engineers, and stakeholders
  • Working with clients to achieve long-term objectives and efficiencies, from strategic planning and feasibility studies to implementation, operations, and maintenance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology or a related field
  • 8+ years of professional experience in cultural resources management
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of NEPA and Section 106 regulations
  • Experience working with private/public sector clients and regulatory agencies; supporting Section 106 compliance for renewable energy projects is a plus
  • Knowledge of Mid-Atlantic archaeology; familiarity with other U.S. regions is a plus
  • Proven experience leading complex environmental compliance projects
  • Experience consulting with Tribal Nations
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist certification
  • Specializations such as history, GIS, geoarchaeology, ethnography, maritime archaeology are advantageous
