Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks experienced Mates for our U.S. flag fleet, offering challenging coastal and river piloting and leadership of deck teams, with simulator-based training to develop decision-making and piloting skills.

Mates report to the Captain, ensure safety, and manage vessel operations across routes from the Great Lakes to the Pacific Northwest, with a 6 weeks on / 3 weeks off schedule. Competitive daily rate plus benefits.

Qualifications

• U.S. Coast Guard Mate license with Near Coastal endorsement; 1,600 GRT preferred.
• Mate experience on coastal and river waterways: 2+ years, 5+ years preferred; Z-drive experience a plus.
• Basic marine engineering knowledge of diesel machinery, hydraulics, and liquid load management.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; pre-employment drug test and random testing.
• TWIC credential and Great Lakes route familiarity (St. Lawrence Seaway, Welland Canal, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
• Operate the vessel in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Conduct daily inspections of all vessel spaces.
• Supervise, lead, and develop deck officers.
• Execute vessel cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
• Execute crew orientation, training, watch standing, and emergency drills.
• Collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew for five-star guest service.
• Document cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
• Maintain a safe, secure, clean onboard environment for passengers and crew.
