Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking an Advanced Marine Welder to support U.S. Navy ships, including installation of C5ISR systems, cabling and electrical repairs aboard ships and at shipyards.

The role requires shipboard welding expertise, DoD security clearance eligibility, and readiness to travel to Chesapeake, VA, with emphasis on safety and adherence to NAVSEA standards. You will read blueprints, cut and fit metal, and train others as needed, while maintaining PPE and respirator requirements.

Qualifications

• DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Minimum 5 years of shipboard welding experience.
• Ability to obtain access to shipyards and pass background and drug screening.
• Must complete Serco welding procedures within 30 days: Serco-001, Serco-002, Serco-003, Serco-007, Serco-012.
• Own tools and pass pre-certification weld test.
• Respirator qualification and proper PPE.
• Familiarity with NAVSEA concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Safety-focused with attention to detail.
• Travel up to 10%; onsite in Chesapeake, VA.

Responsibilities

• Assemble metal parts or repair metal components using heavy machinery.
• Review blueprints to guide fabrication and installation.
• Cut metal to required shapes and dimensions.
• Smooth metal surfaces to remove creases and finish.
• Climb shipyard stairs, work in kneeling positions for cable layout, lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 40 lbs.
• May train personnel on machinery tools and test equipment.
