Job summary

Sayres seeks an experienced Marine Engineer with an active SECRET clearance in Mobile, AL to support PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management and provide SME guidance on hull-equipped ships. You will participate in design, reviews, and in‑service activities to ensure safety and efficiency.

The role requires extensive knowledge of marine propulsion, power systems, and shipboard integration, with CAD/3D tools and strong collaboration with shipyards and classification societies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or similar engineering discipline with 7+ years in ship design
• Experience with deck systems, structures, and shipboard auxiliary systems
• Understanding hull integration, mechanical stress, and equipment placement
• Familiar with corrosion‑resistant materials for marine environments
• Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD MEP) and 3D piping/layout tools
• Knowledge of shipboard electrical networks and PLC/SCADA systems
• Ability to use FMEA and fault-tree analysis for diagnostics
• Experience coordinating with shipyards and classification societies

Responsibilities

• Provide marine engineering support throughout shipbuilding, including concept and preliminary design activities
• Collaborate on contract design and detail design and construction activities
• Conduct independent design reviews for safety and efficiency of ship systems
• Offer technical guidance for in‑service ship design and engineering activities
• Provide shipboard installation support for equipment and systems
• Engage in studies related to ships, boats, craft, and shipboard equipment
