Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Maritime Engineering Operation in Arlington, Virginia. You will lead marine electrical system design, develop schematics, and ensure compliance with SOLAS, IEEE, IEC and other standards while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, prepare cost estimates, and liaison with clients and shipyards. A DoD Secret clearance and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the design of marine electrical systems with a professional engineering firm, shipyard, or marine electrical contractor.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office 2010, MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder, and PLC programming.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, codes and standards such as 46 CFR; ABS; SOLAS; IEEE Std. 45; IMO; IEC; NEC; and others.
  • Experience drafting SOWs and technical instructions.
  • Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, and constructability.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept through detailed design and construction.
  • Produce and review electrical design documentation (SLDs, schematics, load analyses, cable schedules).
  • Provide project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with marine/offshore standards and class rules (IEC, IEEE, DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register).
  • Support project execution through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and sea trials.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, naval architecture, and software teams.
  • Interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classification societies.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Travel occasionally for shipchecks and design reviews.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental considerations in all activities.
  • Comply with corporate policies and quality/security procedures.
