Job summary

Serco is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Maritime Engineering Operation in Arlington, VA. You will lead design of marine electrical systems, produce diagrams and specs, and ensure compliance with marine standards while coordinating with cross‑functional teams.

DoD clearance is a key requirement and travel is about 10%. You will mentor junior engineers, interface with clients and shipyards, and contribute to project cost and schedule estimates, delivering high‑quality designs on

Qualifications

  • Secret clearance eligible; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or marine engineering.
  • 10+ years in marine electrical systems design.
  • Experience with power distribution, switchboards, propulsion electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and industry standards.
  • Strong communication and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel ~10%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept to construction.
  • Produce and review SLDs, schematics, load analyses, and cable schedules.
  • Provide project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s rules.
  • Support FAT/SAT, commissioning, and sea trials.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, naval architecture, and software teams.
  • Interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classifications.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks.
  • Occasional travel for shipchecks and design reviews.
  • Prioritize Health, Safety, and Environmental concerns.
  • Comply with QA and security procedures.
