Job summary

Markel Corporation in Chicago seeks a qualified Marine Bodily Injury Claims professional to resolve complex claims from coverage enquiry through liability assessment and quantum analysis. You will mitigate indemnity and expense exposure while communicating developments to internal and external stakeholders.

You will identify subrogation avenues, handle reserves, and support training for teammates, with travel to mediations, trials, and conferences as required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of claims or relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of bodily injury claims, including litigation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to direct and manage outside vendors, including surveyors and outside counsel.
• Willingness to travel 10–15%.

Responsibilities

• Typically handles moderate to complex exposure personal lines marine bodily injury claims.
• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents.
• Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel, ensures effective vendor and litigation management on moderate to high complexity claims including demonstrable savings.
• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions. Prepares coverage position letters.
• Utilizes investigation and settlement techniques to timely closure with proper documentation.
• Conducts and coordinates investigation into loss facts and damages.
• Provides timely service throughout the life cycle of the claim and meets service level agreements.
• Sets reserves within authority or makes recommendations concerning reserve changes; negotiates and settles claims.
• Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
• Travels to mediations, trials, and conferences as required.
